Introduction to Bellydance · Winter 2012
January 7 - February 11, 2012 · 12:45pm-1:45pm
Criston's Dancewear · 5516 Martin Luther Blvd. (FM 2610), Killeen
Registration has ended. Winter 2012 class is now closed.
The Introduction to Bellydance series are classes structured for the absolute beginner. No dance experience is necessary, and no body type is excluded - all shapes and sizes are welcome. These are ongoing 6-week sessions, with each session teaching a different set of movements. You can start at the beginning of any session and not worry about feeling "lost". Learn something new in every session!
Classes consist of a warm-up, strengthening exercises, explanation and breakdown of movement or steps (drilled with and without music), and each class closes with a cool-down. Teaching games may also be incorporated. Information on music, history, styles, cultural information, and other related topics will also be taught.

What Should I Wear?
Exercise attire is appropriate. Bare stomachs are not required. Classes are danced in bare feet, or you may wear dance shoes such as ballet slippers, lyrical sandals or Hermes sandals. Please bring water with you; this is important so you do not become dehydrated during class.
Bring a fringed or coined hip scarf to tie around your hips. This will emphasize the dance movements and make it easier for you to see what you're doing. Plus they're just a lot of fun - students always enjoy making the fringe sway or coins jingle. I will have a few hip scarves to lend during class time if you do not have your own. Local stores such as Criston's Dancewear, Gaia's Garden, and Earthbound Trading Company sell economical coined hip scarves. I am an Amazon affiliate and have hip scarves, as well as other bellydance items, listed in my online affiliate store at the bottom of the page.
Private Lessons
Private and semi-private lessons are a great way to fast-track learning, but are not recommended for anyone with less than 6 months of belly dance experience in a classroom environment. I will work with you to develop and improve specific skills, as well as identify and correct flaws in technique. When scheduling a private or semi-private lesson, please let me know what you want to work on in our session. Class content will be designed based on your skill level and goals.
Private Lesson · $50/hour
Individual instruction which allows for the one-on-one attention you would not get in a group lesson.
Semi-Private Lesson (up to 3 people) · $75/hour
Enjoy the extra attention and personal feedback that comes with a private lesson while learning with classmates/friends with similar abilities.
Private & Semi-Private Payment and Cancellation Policy
For your convenience, I accept PayPal and will invoice you the day you contact me to schedule your lesson. I will email you confirmation once payment is received.
Private and semi-private students must give 48 hours notice to reschedule the appointment, or cancel the appointment and receive a refund. All classes are non-transferable. If you have any questions about payment, rescheduling, or cancellations, please contact me at Ruya@KilleenBellydance.com.
